About Kaynemaile mesh

Kaynemaile-Armour is a patented, world-leading innovation. Made with engineering grade polycarbonate it has over 60-years of polycarbonate material science and research to call on. Kaynemaile, the manufacturer of the mesh, knows the product inside out. They have undertaken extensive laboratory and field tests to ensure the product range works and they keep testing it everyday.

We think the benefits of the Kaynemaile product are extraordinary.

Kaynemaile Technical Benefits

Solar Reduction

Solar Reduction

Kaynemaile-Armour significantly reduces both radiant heat through direct sunlight (EMR) and thermal conductive heat from entering the interior of a building by up to 70%. This gives you the ability to let daylight in and manage the passive solar gain—all while maintaining visual transparency.

Fast Installation

Super-Fast Installation

Kaynemaile-Armour is lightweight (3kg per square metre) and goes up fast, cutting down the install time dramatically and saving costs. The fixing systems are simple and don’t need the same level of sub-frame as metal products. This means the installed rate is more cost effective than metal or glass panel products.

Unlimited Screen size

Unlimited Screen Size

Kaynemaile-Armour is not limited by panel size—screens can be made to any height or width without joins or distracting gaps. This gives you freedom at the design concept stage that other materials don’t. Making screens to the size you need them means less structure, less fixings, and less time on site.

Nil-waste manufacturing

Eco-conscious Manufacturing

Kaynemaile are constantly striving to reduce the environmental footprint of their business. The manufacturing process means they only make what they need. The Kaynemaile-Armour material is fully recyclable using low-energy processes.

Fire Resistant

Fire Resistant

Kaynemaile mesh achieved a Group 1S in the AS/ISO 9705 room test (equivalent to the NFPA 286 room corner test). With an ASTM D 2843 smoke index of 70.9°, ASTM 635 HB-CCI and NFPA 701-pass. We use FR-V0 material that is rated self-extinguishing. Contact us for specific information on your location.

10 year warranty

10 Year Warranty

Kaynemaile-Armour has a 10-year standard warranty. The seamless mesh is UV stabilised using approved colours for long term stability and full recyclability.

Trusted Durability

Trusted Durability

Metal based materials corrode and oxidise in coastal conditions. Kaynemaile does not. The mesh holds true to its tensile strength. Kaynemaile uses mineral colour-fast pigments that will not stain your building when it rains, unlike traditional metal mesh materials.

Low Maintenance

Low Maintenance

Kaynemaile-Armour mesh is easy to clean. Exterior applications can be washed down with water. For best results we recommend an annual clean.

Unbeatable Strength

Unbeatable Strength

Kaynemaile-Armour mesh is made from the highest performing thermoplastic. It is extremely robust and impact resistant. Thermally stable from -40°C to 120°C.

Weather Protection

Weather Protection

The Kaynemaile-Armour mesh system acts as an effective wind and rain screen due to its cross-sectional density. For added protection, a second skin of mesh can be utilised which effectively limits the through penetration.

Simple Attachment System

Simple Attachment Systems

The Kaynemaile-Armour attachment methods for exterior systems are simple and based around two systems that utilise tube and hooks or a low-profile track. Even Kaynemaile custom projects are based around these simple attaching systems. For fixing details, contact us.

RESULT

Flammability

AS / ISO 9705 Pass Result 1S
Flame-resistant polycarbonate (FRPC)

Rated 'self-extinguishing', standard result — UL94 V-O at 3mm

Kaynemaile architectural mesh has been tested to:
— AS 1530 pt2, achieving a flammability index result of (FI) = 6
— AS 1530 pt3: Regulatory Indices - Ignitability Index = 0, Spread of flame index = 0, Heat Evolved Index = 0, Smoke Developed Index = 1
— NFPA - 701 test method #2 — Pass
— DIN 4102.2 — Pass

USA Intertek Architectural Testing:
— ASTM D 1929 self-ignition test - 520 °C — Pass
— ASTM D 1929 flash ignition temperature - 450 °C — Pass
— ASTM D 2843 average smoke density rating - 70.9 — Pass
— ASTM D 635 average linear rate of burn, no self-sustained burn, classified HB and Class CC1

Sunlight (UV) and exterior weathering

UV stabilised Makrolon Polycarbonate.

Independently lab tested by Building Research Association of New Zealand (BRANZ).

Results show minimal structural/tensile deterioration of the mesh after 2000 hours of continuous testing in New Zealand's harshest UV conditions — some of the toughest in the world.

All colours are light fastened, mineral-based pigments to maintain colour and recyclability. Real world full external exposure testing after 8 years shows 95% original strength and colour retention.

Tensile strength and impact resistance

Note: The accumulated strength of seamless mesh increases proportionately with the size of the panel.

Astron burst testing with a point load area of approx. 32mm on small 140 x 140mm samples show a peak resistance of 279kg.

Suitable for use as balustrade infill to New Zealand Building Code NZBC F4 safety from falling.

Exceeds required strength loads prescribed in AS/NZS 1170.1 for balustrades including C5 Crowd loadings.

Kaynemaile Care and maintenance

Kaynemaile-Armour mesh is easy to maintain and impervious to most airborne pollutants and dirt deposits. We recommend cleaning when dirt or pollutants can be seen, or annually as part of a normal cleaning regime.

Methods of cleaning:

Exterior environments
— Mild detergent pre-soak followed by a low-pressure water blaster rinse
— Avoid abrasive, wax, alkaline or silicon cleaning materials
